Korean soprano singer Lee Sang Eun, aged 46, was found dead in a bathroom before her performance. According to police officials, the discovery was made by an event staffer who spotted her lifeless body in the women’s washroom at the show’s venue.
The police are investigating the cause of death, but no official details have been released yet. The tragic incident shocked and saddened fans and the music industry alike.
Lee Sang-eun was a famous soprano singer with a diverse range of talents. She graduated from Seoul National University and earned a Master’s at the Mannes School of Music in New York. Her voice was renowned for its versatility and depth, and she had been participating in various international opera competitions.
Known for her vast repertoire and unique vocal style, Lee Sang-eun had many fans nationwide. She also had many international fans, mainly due to her participation in various overseas performances. She debuted in 2009 at the National Opera with roles such as Pamina from The Magic Flute and Lucia from Madame Butterfly. She also took part in several opera gala concerts.
A devoted and passionate artist, Lee Sang-eun often took on challenging roles. She also worked on numerous musical projects, including the tv show The Voice Kids, where she competed in the final round.
Despite her success and accolades, tragedy struck when she was reportedly found dead on July 6, 2023, in the women’s restroom at Gimcheon Culture and Art Center. According to the South Korean entertainment portal Koreaboo, the soprano singer was preparing for her live performance titled ‘Carmina Burana’ at the Grand Hall of Gimcheon Culture and Art Center in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The show was a part of the 33rd Regular Concert of the Gimcheon Municipal Choir, organized in collaboration with Mokpo Municipal Choir.
